Going to a university or a college to get a degree is among the goals of many students today as it helps to get a good job and assures a secure future. But due to an unstable economy, many students either do not proceed to pursue their chosen degrees or they get a student loan which they do not pay back until they get a job. Since not all students can easily get a loan, their last resort is usually trying to receive scholarship grants being offered by different institutions or individuals. A good example is the Millennium Scholars Program which is a scholarship being funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Bill Gates scholarship programs are among the most sought after grants because of the benefits that college students are able to acquire and enjoy all throughout college.
The Gates Millennium Scholars Program works hand in hand with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in order to help those students who need the scholarship because both groups share the same thoughts about children’s futures and they both believe that finishing college could be very helpful for students to get their goals.
The Bill Gates scholarship grant, which is awarded to 1,000 chosen students via the Millennium Scholars Program, can be used in any university or college. Furthermore, during the screening process, you will need to undergo a test in reading and then you will be assessed based on your academic achievement, leadership potential, as well as community service. After testing and assessment, you will be informed if you made it to the final screening or not, and after the last screening phase, you will again be informed if you have been selected as among the students to be awarded with the Bill Gates scholarship grant.
The main goal of the Gates Millennium Scholars is to be able to promote excellence in the academic department as well as to be able to give opportunity to minority students who are in need of financial aid.
Moreover, Bill Gates scholarship award is also given in order to increase the representation of the students from the minority groups in the different disciplines like public health, engineering, education, literature, computer science, mathematics, and other sciences wherein it was observed that they were underrepresented. Another goal of this grant is to produce high quality leader’s in the future who will be able to lead the people without hesitations.
